چکیده

This paper demonstrates that multi-agent systems have the capacity to model a region in all its complexity. An example is developed to show that these tools are not only capable of spatializing and distributing the behaviour of individuals, but above all, that they allow individuals to integrate different perceptions of space as well as the constraints imposed on them by a community. A dialectic is established between individuals, spaces and society, which is used to simulate a region using clearly defined social representations and spatial practices, which are suitable for testing our geographical theories and hypotheses.

Spatial representations are not neutral: Lessons from a participatory agent-based modelling process in a land-use conflict

The objective of this paper is to question the increasingly common choice to build and use spatially explicit models, especially in the case of participatory agent-based modelling processes. The paper draws on a combination of lessons from literature and the case of a companion modelling process conducted in the context of a conflict about land and forest management in Northern Thailand. Using ...

Developing a BIM-based Spatial Ontology for Semantic Querying of 3D Property Information

With the growing dominance of complex and multi-level urban structures, current cadastral systems, which are often developed based on 2D representations, are not capable of providing unambiguous spatial information about urban properties. Therefore, the concept of 3D cadastre is proposed to support 3D digital representation of land and properties and facilitate the communication of legal owners...

Biologically Inspired Agents: A Framework for Formal Modelling and Simulation of Agents with Elementary Spatial Attributes

Applications of biological or biologically inspired multi-agent systems often assume a certain level of reliability and robustness, which is not always easy to be achieved. Formal modelling and verification of these systems may present many interesting challenges. For instance, formal verification may be cumbersome or even impossible to be applied on models with increased complexity. On the oth...

Saliency Cognition of Urban Monuments Based on Verbal Descriptions of Mental-Spatial Representations (Case Study: Urban Monuments in Qazvin)

Urban monuments encompass a wide range of architectural works either intentionally or unintentionally. These works are often salient due to their inherently explicit or hidden components and qualities in the urban context. Therefore, they affect the mental-spatial representations of the environment and make the city legible. However, the ambiguity of effective components often complicates their...

Application of multi-agent systems and ambient intelligence approaches in water management

Various recently intensively investigated approaches, based on certain type of embedded intelligence exploitation, can be used also in the area of water management. A big class of them, based mainly on various types of multi-agent systems, are useful for incorporating complexity in ecosystem modelling in general. By incorporating a high degree of social and spatial heterogeneity multi-agent sys...
